Together, We Reached Our Goal!

Wouldn’t you feel like a million bucks if you knew you were helping a child have their chance in life? In 2022 ILWU Walk the Coast, our industry companies, ILWU locals and friends officially hit the amazing one-million-dollar milestone to help children, fund research and support families. That is the amount that Alex raised. She continues to be our inspiration and we invite you to join us in 2023 as we look to our next milestone.

Our MILLION DOLLAR Party!

Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament

We hit the “jackpot” by raising $11,995 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.  On December 6th, after a forced pandemic break, our ILWU Walk the Coast Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament came back!  It was a “full house” of 98 players who came and enjoyed an evening of fun and friendship.  They weren’t “bluffing” about their desire to help save children’s lives.   Mickey Gonzalez of ILWU Films created a video which has enjoyed over Instagram 6,000 hits.

Alex’s Story

The history of ILWU Walk the Coast is not complete without the selfless inspiration of Alexandra "Alex" Scott. Alex’s life is the account of youth stolen by cancer.  Before her time was cut short at age 8, her selfless dedication to find cures for childhood cancer raised $1,000,000. Alex would have celebrated her 27th birthday this year. Alex’s spirit lives through her Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.  Her vision funds cancer research and family support. Watch a video message from Alex’s mother Liz.

We also invite you to watch a video message from International Longshore and Warehouse President William “Willie” Adams, posted on the ILWU Walk the Coast Facebook page. That is where you too can post your video and enjoy fellow ALSF supporter’s videos.

ILWU Coast Committee

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union's Coast Longshore Division has supported the ILWU Walk the Coast annual fundraiser since 2012. This year, due to pandemic restrictions, the in-person events that have been supported by ILWU Longshore Workers, Marine Clerks, Walking Bosses and others in our industry have been shifted online for safety. The ILWU Coast Committeemen urge everyone to continue to maintain their annual support in 2020.
